In Division III, the Mission Prep girls basketball team won their CIF State 1st round game last night over Legacy 66-59 to advance to the 2nd round.
As the 5-seed, the Royals will be on the road Thursday in Paloma Valley. Getting this far isn't a surprise for the team, but over the last few weeks, the squad's energy and chemistry has grown immensely.
"If you would've asked me a month ago, it was like a scene from The Walking Dead. Now, it's like a party," Ryan Weisenberg, the Royals' head coach, said. "They realize and their confidence is there. We're peaking at the right time."
"Our confidence is at an all-time high. It's not necessarily cockiness, it's confidence and belief in ourselves and our coaching staff," Kyra Harris, a senior guard for the Royals, said. "We really want to bring it back for our school and our city. It's like a big party, a big fun party, and a sisterhood in the locker room. It's just a lot of excitement, a lot of fun."
