Henry Allen and Kayla Kling were honored Monday afternoon in Santa Maria at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table luncheon.
Allen, the male athlete of the week, helped guide the Santa Ynez boys water polo team to four wins last week while scoring 31 goals and assisting on three more. He's tallied a team-high 92 goals this season as the Pirates sport a 16-3 overall record.
"It's been a lot of fun to go get some goals in games," Allen said. "I mean scoring is always fun, but we've been doing really well as a team this year which has been the benefit of scoring a lot. We're just having a great time."
Kling, the female athlete of the week, is a member of the Cabrillo girls tennis team. Kling won all six of her matches during Channel League play last week. The star Conquistador will look to improve her record this week with matchups against Lompoc and Santa Ynez.
"My team, in general, has been so supportive. All the girls that we've played have been amazing," Kling said. "We've encountered a lot of good teams and good hitters, but we've pulled through most of the time."
