UPDATE (Saturday): Authorities launched a suspicious death investigation following the discovery of a body Friday near Highway 101 in Templeton.

Authorities say Caltrans workers called CHP at 11:05 a.m. after finding the body within the west shoulder of the highway near Vineyard Drive.

CHP says the man was found lying face dace down on the dirt shoulder of the road, adding that no person identification for the man was found nearby.

"CHP Coastal Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU) personnel are currently investigating the incident as a suspicious death of an unknown person," a press release stated.

ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body off Highway 101 in Templeton.

The discovery was made on the southbound side of the highway, just south of Vineyard Drive, by Caltrans crews at around 11 a.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says the investigation, which caused major traffic in the area into the afternoon, is still ongoing, and there is no information at this time on who the person is.
