2019 is getting off to an active start for the Central Coast and in the state of California as the jet stream is steering a series of storms into The West.

Today’s storm looks to produce less than an inch of rain for most but did produce waves of 17-22ft with some potential of 25-26ft thru 8pm tonight before the surf event wanes. A high surf warning is in place to cover this element of the forecast.

The front producing the rain looks to dissipate later this afternoon and evening as it moves south thru Santa Barbara county. There looks to be a lull in rain on Thursday, though night and morning low clouds and fog will likely develop in wind sheltered valleys.

After that the forecast looks to get interesting. Another storm is on the way Friday into early Saturday.

Friday Frontal Analysis

Not a huge storm, another .25-1″ system. However Sunday-Thursday next week could be very active with a series of low pressure systems lined up.

Series of possible storms next week

Computer modeling is showing the potential of 2-7+” of rain cumulatively over the next 8 days. Let me say right off the top that these longer looks are subject to a lot of change, a lot of things need to develop to actually produce that much rain.

8 day rain potential from EURO model

That said, the potential is significant and backed up by several models at this point. This is a dynamic forecast and people should continue to stay informed as details change and should advisories or warnings become necessary.
