Possible waterspout located south of Point Conception, National Weather Service warns

UPDATE (5:37 p.m.): The Marine Warning has now been extended through 7 p.m. as there have been several rotating cells embedded within a large area of thunderstorms moving across the outer waters near the Channel Islands to San Luis Obispo County and into the Santa Barbara Channel.

ORIGINAL STORY: The National Weather Service has issued a Special Marine Warning for the waters near Pt. Sal to Santa Cruz Island.

Around 4:30 p.m., weather experts say a possible waterspout was seen 6 NM south of Point Conception, moving northeast at 40 knots.

The warning includes San Miguel and Santa Rosa Islands.

There is a hazard warning for waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

The warning expires at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
