Fire breaks out in Santa Maria Riverbed

UPDATE (11:51 a.m.) - The Santa Maria Fire Department revised the area burned to approximately eight acres.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

UPDATE (11:03 a.m.) - Fire officials say the forward spread of the fire has been stopped and about 11 acres burned.

(10:37 a.m.) - Firefighters are battling a brush fire burning in the Santa Maria Riverbed.

It was reported at around 10 a.m. Monday on the west side of the riverbed, which is located in San Luis Obispo County.

Winds were reportedly fanning the flames, which were heading toward Bonita School Road.

As of 10:30 a.m., no road closures were in place and no structures threatened, according to Santa Maria Fire.

A wind advisory and red flag warning are currently in place for the Central Coast.
