Fire burns off Highway 41 in Atascadero

UPDATE (6:02 p.m.) - Atascadero fire officials say a fire that broke out in the area of Carmelita and Casanova roads on Tuesday burned about ten acres and one structure was partially lost.

Several homes in the area were threatened and evacuated, but firefighters say they were able to protect multiple homes.

The fire was first reported as a vehicle fire that spread to vegetation.

Firefighters are expected to be on scene for the next couple of hours and are encouraging people to stay out of the area.

UPDATE (5:43 p.m.) - CAL FIRE reports that forward progress of the fire has been stopped.

(4:50 p.m.) - A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon off Highway 41 in Atascadero.

It was first reported at about 4:10 p.m. in the area of Carmelita Rd. and Casanova Rd.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays as Highway 41 was closed at Old Morro Road.

CAL FIRE and San Luis Obispo City Fire were assisting the Atascadero Fire Department in response to the fire.
