California weather has turned cool as firefighters work to increase containment of numerous wildfires, but the once-promising prospect of significant weekend rain in some areas is fizzling.

The San Francisco Bay Area weather office says Thursday the rain event is turning into a non-event.

The most likely precipitation is now expected to be drizzle or light showers, followed by dry and warming conditions starting early next week, with potential for winds.

Forecasters say they will be closely watching the pattern for increased fire weather potential.

More than 15,000 firefighters are on the lines of 22 major wildfires.
