Firefighters face high temps on third day of battling Whale Fire near Cayucos

CAL FIRE SLO says the Whale Fire, burning east of Cayucos, has burnt 210 acres and is 40 percent contained.

The fire broke out Saturday morning along Old Creek Road and Santa Rita Road. Old Creek Road at Highway 46 and Old Creek Road at Santa Rita Road remains closed.

Firefighters are on their third day battling the fire and continue to face high temperatures in the area as they continue their mop up efforts.

Fire officials say no structures are threatened and cause of the fire was due to lighting in the area.

A total of 77 firefighters remain on scene Monday morning.
