Forward progress has been stopped on a vegetation fire burning east of Cayucos.

The Whale Fire broke out Saturday around 10:40 a.m. on Sunrise Ridge Road and Santa Rita Road.

According to CAL FIRE SLO, 210 acres burned.

The fire is 35 percent contained and fire officials say firefighters are dealing with high temperatures and steep terrain as they work to establish control lines around the fire.

Mop-up and reducing tree hazards around the fire’s perimeter will continue Sunday.

All evacuation warnings have been lifted. No structures are threatened and none have been damaged.

Eighty-five personnel remain assigned to the fire.

A fire that broke out just moments before at Sunrise Ridge Road and Santa Rita Road burned 13 acres and is 50 percent contained.

Smoke from both fires was drifting into northern San Luis Obispo County Saturday night causing poor air quality for residents in the area.

In Nipomo, a fire that broke out around 4 p.m. Saturday on Rancho Road near S. Dana Foothill Road burned 68 acres.

The fire is now 95 percent contained.

An official cause of all three fires has not been released.
