The Santa Barbara County Fire Department on Monday announced that the ban on permit burning within state and local responsibility areas has been lifted.

Anyone with a valid burn permit may continue permitted burning in Santa Barbara County. The permits allow for burn piles only and are not meant for the burning of standing vegetation.

Before a permit is issued, the fire department must be contacted to inspect all burn sites and piles for compliance.

All permit holders must follow all permit rules and guidelines. Property owners and permit holders may be fined or held responsible for any burn that requires help from the fire department. Non-compliance may result in citation and/or full cost recovery.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department on Feb. 1 transitioned from a High Fire Season to a Winter Preparedness Level.
