Vegetation fire prompts closure of NB Hwy 101 in Santa Ynez Valley

UPDATE (4:02 p.m.) - Caltrans reports that Highway 101 is now open in both directions.

UPDATE (2:09 p.m.) - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says at least one northbound lane of Highway 101 between highways 154 and 246 is expected to re-open shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Forward progress of the blaze, which is estimated to have burned between 10 and 15 acres, has been stopped and some crews released from the scene.

Fire officials say wind and hot temperatures were a concern

The southbound side of the highway remains open.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: A vegetation fire has prompted the closure of northbound Highway 101 at Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Santa Barbara County Fire reports the fire started shortly before 1 p.m. Friday in the center divider north of Highway 154.

The fire jumped to the northbound side of Highway 101 and was 10 acres as of 1:22 p.m.

Additional crews along with helicopters and air tankers are being requested at the scene.

Northbound Highway 101 at Highway 154 is closed until further notice.
