COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A multi-year study released by the mayor of Ohio’s capital city has found ethnic and gender disparities in the awarding of city contracts.
The study by Oakland, Calif.-based Mason Tillman Associates found that black males and black females were especially unsuccessful getting the city’s prime contracts.
Those include contracts in construction, professional services and other goods and services.
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther, a Democrat, said Wednesday his administration has made improvements in boosting contracts for minorities and women, but added that “better” isn’t good enough for Columbus.
The Columbus Dispatch reports the $685,000 study is being released more than a year after city officials intended because problems with the data that Columbus provided to Mason Tillman were discovered after a draft was finished.
