A new monarch butterfly habitat opened in Atascadero, giving migrating butterflies what officials call a "vital rest stop" along the California coast.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday to celebrate the new habitat, located at Morro Bay Road and Highway 41, near the US-101 off-ramp.
City officials say the habitat will serve not only monarch butterflies, but also other pollinators traveling between Monterey and Pismo Beach.
