UPDATE (2/14, 10:29 a.m.): An elderly woman died after a multi-vehicle crash on the 9000 block of El Camino Real in Atascadero. Police and several other agencies responded to a report of an accident at around 3:00 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found a car overturned on the sidewalk and a pickup truck up on an embankment.

Officials quickly learned one person was trapped inside the car and required extrication. The driver was then taken to a local hospital, suffering from major injuries. The pickup truck driver was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. However, the woman, who was a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted an in-depth investigation, resulting in a temporary closure of the southbound lanes of El Camino Real.

The cause of death remains under investigation, and it has not been confirmed whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved.

ORIGINAL STORY: First responders were at the scene of a car crash in Atascadero on Friday afternoon.

It happened along the 9000 block of El Camino Real. Police were asking people to avoid the area between Santa Rosa Road and La Linia Avenue.

Video from the scene showed a white work truck on its side off the road and a dark-colored vehicle overturned.

The cause of the crash and the extent of injuries are unknown at this time.
