The City of Lompoc has announced Kevin Shay as the new Fire Chief of the Lompoc City Fire Department.
Shay is set to officially start his role on Saturday, August 8, after serving as Interim Fire Chief since March 26.
Shay has over 20 years in the fire service and 18 years serving the Lompoc community.
As fire chief, Shay will be focused on maintaining a highly trained workforce, improving recruitment and retention, and replacing aging equipment and facilities.
In addition, he says he is committed to strengthening regional partnerships and ensuring the department remains financially responsible.
City Manager Dean Albro says he is excited for the new appointment.
“After careful consideration of all applicants, Kevin Shay was selected for the position. His extensive firefighting experience and years of service to the Lompoc community demonstrate both his commitment to public service and professionalism,” Albro said. “Chief Shay’s dedicated leadership will benefit both our community and the Lompoc Fire Department. I look forward to working with Chief Kevin Shay in his new role as Lompoc Fire Department’s fire chief.”
Shay has worked in multiple departments within the Lompoc Fire Department including operational positions, training, EMS, and administrative leadership.
He also serves as part-time faculty with the Allan Hancock College Regional Fire Academy where he helps train future firefighters.
Shay calls the new role an "incredible honor" and says that he is "humbled by the confidence the city has placed in me."
