Cal Fire's San Luis Obispo unit is set to conduct a prescribed burn as part of an ongoing habitat restoration process.
It will be burning piles of cut vegetation at Morro Dunes Ecological Reserve in Los Osos.
Burning is planned for August 18 through 20. Additional burning is expected August 24 through 27, weather permitting. This will be an ongoing project requiring multiple burn days.
Cal Fire says the operation is to promote regeneration of three rare, threatened, endangered plant species that are either fire dependent or benefit from fire. The project will also reduce the accumulation of flammable vegetation that could spark wildfires.
