BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are searching for an inmate who was shackled when he escaped custody from a Southern California hospital.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office says Jason Ralls was last seen Saturday night at Kern Medical in Bakersfield.

It’s not clear how he escaped.

Sheriff’s officials say the 42-year-old was wearing a brown jumpsuit. Both his wrists were cuffed to a waist chin and his legs were shackled. He was either barefoot or had just socks on his feet.

Officials didn’t say why Ralls was at the hospital.

He is described as white, standing 6 feet (1.83 meters) tall, weighing 200 pounds (90.72 kilograms), with brown hair and hazel eyes.
