Additional 30 tons of sand requested at Santa Barbara sandbagging location

With rain expected to hit the Central Coast hard Monday into Tuesday, people in southern Santa Barbara County are getting prepared. 

Late Monday morning, with rain already falling in some areas, people were making last-minute trips to the Santa Barbara City Annex Yard to fill up sandbags.

The location has already gone through 40 tons of sand and has requested 30 tons more

More than two inches of rain are forecast for some areas in Santa Barbara County on Monday with the heaviest rain likely coming during the late night or overnight hours. 

Evacuation orders for areas in and around the Thomas Fire burn scar go into effect at noon Monday and a temporary Red Cross evacuation center has been set up at the Santa Barbara City College cafeteria.
