31 veterans receive ‘long overdue’ welcome home at SLO airport

Dozens of people packed the San Luis Obispo airport Wednesday night to welcome home 31 WWII, Korean and Vietnam war veterans.

The veterans were in Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight Central Coast, which sponsors the veterans, allowing them to visit Washington, D.C. to see the memorials that honor their service.

The organization’s goal is to help every single veteran in America see the memorials that commemorate their sacrifices in the nation’s capital.

Wednesday’s welcome home, where they were greeted with people holding signs, flags and expressing their gratitude, was a surprise to the returning veterans and something Welcome Home Military Heroes says was long overdue.
