Holiday Fire cost $1.5 million to fight

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says the destructive Holiday Fire that broke out in Goleta last Friday cost $1.5 million to fight.

The fire, which started shortly after 8:30 p.m. on July 6 in the area of Holiday Hill Road and Fairview Avenue, burned 113 acres and destroyed 10 homes. Three other homes were damaged and 14 outbuildings were destroyed.

The fire was fueled by strong winds and 100-degree temperatures that lasted well into the evening hours.

It was declared 100 percent contained on Tuesday, July 10. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
