The driver killed in a crash on the Cuesta Grade over the weekend has been identified as Alejandro Carriedo, 23, of Stockton.

Emergency crews responded to reports of the crash at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes at the base of the grade.

The California Highway patrol says Carriedo was said to have been speeding and driving recklessly when he changed lanes and hit another vehicle near the Fox Hollow Road intersection.

The impact caused Carriedo to lose control of his vehicle, which then went up an embankment and overturned.

Carriedo was wearing a seatbelt, according to CHP, but was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured.

Officers say it is not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

CHP asks anyone who witnessed the crash to call (805) 594-8700.
