Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested two men on the suspicion of drug trafficking in Santa Barbara on Thursday.

During saturation patrols related to the Fiesta celebrations in Santa Barbara, detectives stopped a driver in the area of Milpas and Highway 101.

The driver, 29-year-old Santa Maria resident David Olaf Barajas was believed to be under the influence.

An investigation revealed the vehicle’s passenger, 30-year-old Isael Jesus Elenes of Santa Maria was on active probation for trafficking narcotics sand fleeing from law enforcement.

Detectives conducted a search with the Santa Barbara Police Department’s K9 "Jack", finding more than 25 grams of meth, nearly 5 grams of heroin, cash, and a semi-automatic handgun in the car.

Barajas and Elenes are both suspected gang members from Santa Maria, officials say.

The two were arrested for possession of drugs for sales, being felons in possession of a firearm, and several other drug-related charges. Barajas is being held on a $500,000 bail and Elenes is being held without bail.
