There’s a new donut shop in Downtown San Luis Obispo, and it gives customers some room for creativity.
At the do-it-yourself startup Downtown Donut Factory, you begin with a fresh cake donut. You’re able to choose between chocolate and yellow cake, or even seasonal flavors like Pumpkin Spice.
After you’ve chosen your cake, you pick the icing and toppings you would like and finish it off with your choice of drizzle.
There are 50 toppings available to create your own taste bud experience.
"Who doesn’t like feeling involved, like you created something. It’s something you can be proud of, something you can eat and be like ‘wow.’ It’s original because when you come in, you can create your own original donut," said Josh Morro, who owns both Downtown Donut Factory and Rocket Fizz.
Pre-made donuts are also available, including a blueberry glazed bacon and maple bacon bomb.
The donut shop is already open for business, but an official grand opening ceremony will be held Saturday.
