Highway 1 through Big Sur will remain closed through Friday morning when Caltrans plans to assess the road’s condition before potentially reopening.
Highway 1 has been closed at Paul’s Slide and at Mud Creek since noon Wednesday. The area is prone to landslides, and Caltrans put up locked gates at the two sections of the road as a safety precaution.
Caltrans crews plan to inspect the road on Friday morning before determining what work needs to be done in order to reopen the road as soon as possible.
The Big Sur coast is still accessible via Nacimiento-Fergusson Road.
