UPDATE (9:44 p.m.) – Caltrans hopes to reopen a stretch of Highway 166 just before midnight.
The Public Information Officer for Caltrans District 5, Jim Shivers, tweeted Wednesday night that the highway would reopen around 11:55 p.m. He also says one-way reversing traffic control is underway in the area.
ORIGINAL STORY – Caltrans has shut down about 13 miles of Highway 166 in both directions near New Cuyama Wednesday morning due to downed power lines.
The Highway 166 closure is in place just east of Highway 33, from Hubbard Ave. in New Cuyama to Stubblefield Rd. in Maricopa, Kern County.
According to the CHP incident page, there are multiple power poles and lines down across the roadway.
For drivers needing to get around the closure, Caltrans advises using Highway 46 as an alternative route.
