Local organizations are trying to raise awareness and prevent child abuse.
The Center for Family Strengthening, the Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Luis Obispo County, and the Department of Social Services of San Luis Obispo County held a memorial flag raising event Friday afternoon outside the San Luis Obispo courthouse on Monterey Street.
Organizers say it’s part of a statewide effort to honor children who are killed as a result of child abuse.
“We are recognizing that when children die from unexpected violence or abuse and neglect, we want to bring to the community’s attention that we as a community care for kids of all ages and also that deaths do occur unexpectedly,” said Lisa Fraser, Executive Director of the Center for Family Strengthening. “We all are part of children’s safety.”
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month.
