18th SLO County resident dies after testing positive for COVID-19

An 18th San Luis Obispo County resident has reportedly died after testing positive for COVID-19.

The County Public Health Department on Thursday said the person was in their 90s and “vulnerable to serious illness” due to chronic health conditions.

As of Thursday, 24 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in San Luis Obispo County bringing the county’s total since the start of the pandemic to 2,324.

1,950 people have reportedly recovered. Another 336 were said to be recovering at home, 20 people are hospitalized with four in the ICU.

The county reports 45,285 tests have been conducted at county and private labs.

COVID-19 tests are currently available to the public in Grover Beach, San Luis Obispo, and Atascadero.

The testing clinic in Atascadero will be open through August 20.
