Santa Barbara Co. reports 9th death from COVID-19

Santa Barbara County reported another death attributed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the county to 9.

Public Health officials say the patient lived in Santa Barbara, was in their 40s, and had underlying health conditions.

The county also reported 18 new confirmed cases of coronavirus. The county's total is now 544.

Thirty-seven people are recovering in the hospital, including eleven patients who are in the ICU.

Health officials say another 37 people are recovering at home and 442 people are fully recovered.

Information on 19 other cases is pending.

"We are saddened by the loss of this individual and extend our deepest condolences to their friends and family. As we continue to battle the spread of COVID-19, we ask community members to continue doing their part by wearing facial coverings while in public and continuing to practice social distancing," said Van Do-Reynoso, PhD, Director of Public Health.
