The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District says a district employee has tested positive for COVID-19.
School district officials did not disclose the employee's position or whether they work at one of the schools or at the district office.
Officials said the district was notified of the positive test Thursday and "immediately contacted Santa Barbara County Public Health and is following all appropriate procedures related to the pandemic. This includes deep cleaning, disinfecting and contact tracing."
August 17 was the first day of the new school year for students in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. Classes are being held virtually until at least December.
