With the polls closed on election night, results are showing Joan Hartmann with a lead over Bruce Porter and Karen Jones in the race for Santa Barbara County District 3 Supervisor.
The top two vote-getters in this race would have appeared on the General Election ballot in Novemeber if no one received 50.1 percent of the vote; however, as of early Wednesday morning, Hartmann had secured that lead.
Hartmann, the incumbent, was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2016. She has 8,253 votes or 52 percent.
Porter spent 25 years with the Army Corps of Engineers and is a former president of the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District governing board. He has 5,640 votes or 36 percent.
Jones is the current president of the Santa Ynez Community Services District. She has 1,037 votes, which amounts to 7 percent.
A fourth candidate, Jessica Alvarez Parfrey, dropped out of the race and threw her support behind Hartmann. Still, Parfrey's name appeared on the ballot. She brought in 793 votes or 5 percent.
Some ballots are still being counted and election results have not been finalized.
District 3 encompasses a vast area that includes UCSB, Isla Vista, Goleta, the Santa Ynez Valley, unincorporated areas of Lompoc, Mission Hills, Vandenberg Village, Casmalia, Tanglewood, and Guadalupe.
