Sixty-nine flights and 1,356 steps all in the effort for a cure.

On Sunday, 10 local firefighters ascended up 788 feet of vertical elevation in support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the Columbia Center building in downtown Seattle.

All 2,000 participants are career or volunteer firefighters who will climb up the second tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi in full turnout gear, weighing over 50 pounds, while on-air.

The CAL FIRE – SLO County Fire team raised $19,533. The team sported shirts and pictures of Ryan Teixeira, an Arroyo Grande graduate and baseball standout who passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and Mateo Cota, nicknamed by family and friends as “The Beast”, who is battling a second bout of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
