It’s official: REI is coming to San Luis Obispo.

The national outdoor retail co-op announced Tuesday it has finalized its lease in the San Luis Obispo Promenade shopping center next to Sprouts Farmers Market, saying it plans to open the new 22,000-square-foot store this fall.

“Close to the California coast and Los Padres National Forest, San Luis Obispo is a thriving outdoor hub,” said Greg Mellinger, REI retail director for the California-Nevada district in a press release. “We are thrilled to finally join San Luis Obispo and further connect our members to the amazing outdoor opportunities this community has to offer.”

REI carries a variety of gear and rentals for outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, camping and cycling.

The company says it also plans to offer workshops and other outdoor experiences at the new location.

REI is looking to hire approximately 45 people for the San Luis Obispo store. To apply or for more information, click here.
