Shandon gets dedicated sheriff’s deputy

Posted

The community of Shandon now has a sheriff’s deputy specifically assigned to the area.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that the new deputy started earlier this month.

It’s the first time the community has had a dedicated sheriff’s deputy. Funding for the position was approved by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors after a request from Supervisor John Peschong.

The sheriff’s office says the addition should “significantly improve” response times to the rural community of 1,200 people in northern San Luis Obispo County.

In addition to day-to-day duties, sheriff’s officials say the deputy will attend monthly community meetings in Shandon and all special town events.

The deputy will be based out of the sheriff’s office station in Templeton and will also assist the nearby communities of Creston and Whitley Gardens as needed.
