2019 marks the Centennial of San Luis Obispo County Libraries and the 100th anniversary of the ground-breaking for construction at Hearst Castle.

To celebrate, California State Parks Museum Director Mary Levkoff and Guide Supervisor Aja Milne have developed a schedule of programs that will be taking place throughout the summer for the Adult Summer Reading Program.

Several of the county library branches will be hosting a fashion show that aims to be an interpretive experience about Hearst Castle with select period pieces and reproductions on hand to try styles from the past.

Also scheduled as part of the program are presentations on Chief Architect Julia Morgan, a longtime Hearst companion, as well as actress Marion Davies.

Morro Bay will have a Hearst tile exhibit installed in July. Cambria library will exhibit architectural replicas of Julia Morgan’s work and tile work from the castle in July. Los Osos library will showcase a model of the castle and docents from California State Parks will discuss the castle’s construction.

Dan Falat, Superintendent of Parks, has donated two free tickets for a Grand Rooms Tour to a lucky winner of the Short and Sweet Adult Summer Reading Program.  To find out more information, including dates, times, and locations of events, click here.
