Some local high school students are taking part in a five-day leadership camp hosted by the Allan Hancock College Career Center.

Organizers say the camp provides students with leadership skills through team building exercises and other activities and helps them prepare for a future in the working world.

“We want them to see that they can come here and they can start their future careers and we would love to have them, so getting them to see that as a possibility is one of the most important things,” said Rebecca Jacobs, Career Readiness Specialist-Business Partnerships.

About a dozen students are taking part in the program.

This is the first time the Santa Maria college has hosted the camp.
