Felony charges have been filed against a Northern California man in connection with a crash in Paso Robles earlier this month that killed his passenger.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office says Wilder Blue Barela, 32, faces charges of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and DUI with injury and personal infliction.

It was not immediately clear if he has entered a plea.

Blue was arrested following the July 13 crash where California Highway Patrol officers say he went off the road and his vehicle struck a tree along the 5700 block of Union Road.

His passenger, identified as Maya Lakshima Visvanathan, 25, of Los Altos, was killed.

Barela remained in custody Monday morning at San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu $100,000, according to jail logs, which allege his BAC was above .10 percent at the time of the crash.
