Lompoc police officers made more than a half-dozen arrests on Monday after an assault.
According to a press release, the arrests came just before 6 p.m. after officers were patrolling the area of 700B N F/G St.
Officers heard five to six gunshots near 801 N F St. Police said tips came in, reporting several gang member type juveniles had been fighting and shots were fired.
After a search of the area and receiving consent to enter an apartment, officers found seven people hiding in a bedroom.
Inside, officers found two firearms and methamphetamine and a digital scale. All six males whom were arrested associate with a local street gang, police said.
Officers investigated further and found nearby video surveillance showing the suspects assaulting another man on E Pine Avenue. In the press release, police stated the suspects punched, kicked and threw a heavy bottle at the victim before retreating. A short time later, they also retrieved a firearm and fired at the victim, but did not strike him.
Sergio Mendez is a convicted felon who is forbidden to possess a firearm and is on probation. Angel Morgan, along with another gang member, were recently arrested on Feb. 23 by LPD patrol officers for being found in possession of a loaded firearm, while possessing narcotics, but was later released.
The four others arrested are juveniles. Their identities will not be released.
