99 active cases of COVID-19 reported within inmate population at California Men's Colony

The number of COVID-19 cases reported at the California Men's Colony keeps increasing.

As of Saturday morning, 111 inmates and 12 employees cases are link to the recent outbreak.

Of the total positive cases, 99 cases of inmates remain active and four employees have returned to work, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Out of 35 CDCR institutions, CMC ranks sixth in terms of number of COVID-19 cases.

According to officials, more than 1,000 inmates have been tested in the last 14 days and testing is ongoing.

CMC officials say an outside vendor is being used for mandatory staff testing "to help reduce the burden on county resources."
