A bus driver is facing charges following a crash in Santa Barbara last year that killed one person and injured several others.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office announced the charge of vehicular manslaughter against Aura Leticia Mijangos, 61, of Goleta Monday in connection with the Oct. 9, 2019 crash on West Figueroa Street.

Authorities say Eve Debra Johnson, 67, was struck and killed and another person seriously injured while waiting at a bus stop on the corner of Chapala and West Figueroa streets near the Transit Center for the Metropolitan Transit District (MTD).

Several others on the MTD bus were also reportedly injured when the bus went onto the sidewalk.

The DA's office alleges Mijangos committed a "misdemeanor, infraction or otherwise lawful act in an unlawful manner, which was dangerous to human life under the circumstances of its commission, and was committed with ordinary negligence."

Mijangos is scheduled to be arraigned in Santa Barbara Superior Court on Aug. 17. MTD says she has been on a leave of absence since the crash.

Resources are being made available to victims of the bus crash.
