Cal Poly police are mourning the loss of the department's first K9.
Police Chief George Hughes says Brisant "lost his battle to a devastating illness last night."
He reportedly was surrounded at the time by those who love him.
Hughes says Brisant's "outstanding service to the campus and surrounding community will never be forgotten."
Brisant was one of two University Police Department K9s. The other is Zeus, who came to the department in the summer of 2018.
