A Cal Poly San Luis Obispo employee has tested positive for COVID-19, health officials say.

In an email sent to university faculty, staff and students, San Luis Obispo County Public Health officers say a campus employee tested positive, but did not give specifics on who the person is, what department he/she works for, or areas of campus he/she may have frequented, citing privacy laws.

The employee is isolating, according to officials.

Public health officers have begun contact tracing and will be reaching out to anyone who may have been in contact with the employee recently.

In addition, officials say the university is thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting campus facility and equipment, included surfaces the employee may have touched or used while infected.

A Cal Poly student also tested positive back in March.

The out-of-area student left San Luis Obispo for their permanent home residence, outside of the San Luis Obispo area, on March 17, 2020.

Health officials are expected to update these numbers on Monday, July 6th.
