City of Santa Maria cancels and postpones numerous events due to coronavirus pandemic

The city of Santa Maria is canceling numerous public events and gatherings through March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

City leaders said the decision comes after Santa Barbara County declared a local health emergency Thursday.

Public events and programs by the Recreation and Parks Department and Public Library and branch libraries will be postponed or canceled.

In a press release, city officials said additionally some city permits could be canceled for rentals of city facilities:

  • Downtown Fridays will be postponed from March 27th to May 1st
  • Community Development Week and Community Resource Fair (hosted by the city's Special Projects team) will be postponed from April 13th and 15th to an undetermined date.

The city is not postponing or canceling regularly scheduled City Council, Planning Commission or Recreation and Park Commission meetings.

The city of Santa Maria is working to update its action plan in response to COVID-19 and is evaluating out-of-area traveling/training of employees according to the press release.
