Firefighters on scene of fire in Santa Ynez Riverbed in Lompoc, flames visible from Highway 246

UPDATE (7:52 p.m.) - The Lompoc Fire Department and Santa Barbara County Fire Department are working together to put out a small vegetation fire in the Santa Ynez Riverbed.

Fire officials say the fire was knocked down. The fire burned about a quarter of an acre.

As of 7:45 p.m. both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 246 are closed off to traffic.

ORIGINAL STORY (7:27 p.m.) - Firefighters are working to put out a fire that broke out in the Santa Ynez Riverbed in Lompoc Sunday night.

As of 7:05 p.m., crews were on scene battling the flames, which were visible from
Highway 246 near River Park and Sweeney Rd.

According to the CHP, westbound lanes of Highway 246 has been closed off as of 7:10 p.m. as crews worked to put out the fire.

Drivers were being detoured in the area.

No word on the cause.
