Officials from Santa Barbara County Fire, California Fish and Wildlife and the U.S. Coast Guard practiced how to respond to an oil spill during a drill in Goleta on Thursday.
About 25 first responders attended the simulated spill at Goleta Beach.
They used jet skis and boats to practice using booms to clean up spills in the ocean.
The booms are able to remove oil from the water by absorbing it through the sides.
Such drills are held every couple of years to teach crews how to respond if something similar happens in the future.
