Here are the winners of Atascadero's 5th Annual Tamale Festival

People in Atascadero filled up on tamales this past Saturday at the 5th Annual Tamale Festival.

The festival included the Best Tamale Contest in Traditional and Gourmet categories. The winners are:

Best Tamale Contest:

Traditional:

1st Place Non-Profit - La Luz Del Mundo. Paso Robles

2nd Place Non-Profit - La Luz Del Mundo, Santa Ana

1st Place Commercial - Mary's Cuisine Catering, San Luis Obispo

2nd Place Commercial- Beth's Tamales/ Old Town Mexican Cafe, Santa Ana

Gourmet:

1st Place Non-Profit - La Luz Del Mundo, Santa Ana

2nd Place Non-Profit - La Luz Del Mundo Paso Robles

1st Place Commercial- Mary's Cuisine Catering, San Luis Obispo

2nd Place Commercial - Me Gusta Gourmet Tamales, Napoleon Pacoima

The winner of the Best Overall Tamale was La Luz Del Mundo, Paso Robles.

In the Tamale Eating Contest, Charles G. Bill of Indio California took first place in the 12 and over category. William Maynard won first place in the under-12 category.

Winners of the Chihuahua and Pet Costume include:

1st Place ~ Best Costume: Gus, Owner Paige Foss

1st Place ~ Best Overall Costume/ Most Creative: Gus, Owner Paige Foss;

1st Place ~ Owner/ Dog Look-a-like: Bean, Owner Ava Kershner

The 2021 Tamale Festival is scheduled to take place from January 15-16.
