The couple whose home was searched during the investigation into the San Luis Obispo police chief's missing gun appeared in court Tuesday.

33-year-old Cheyne Orndoff and 31-year-old Vanessa Bedroni appeared on felony child abuse charges.

A tip led San Luis Obispo officers to their home the night Chief Deanna Cantrell left her firearm in the restroom of a restaurant earlier in the day on July 10.

Orndoff did not take the gun, but officers still searched the home because they said Orndoff was on probation.

Prosecutors said the condition of the home led officers to arrest the couple and place their two children, ages eight and nine, into protective custody.

During the court proceeding, the couple asked for supervised visitation for the birthday of one of their children next week. Their request was denied by the presiding judge.

The court hearing was continued to later this month.
