A local family is releasing a new edition of their family cookbook based on recipes from the historic Mee Heng Low Restaurant in Downtown San Luis Obispo.
The Gin family owned and operated the restaurant in San Luis Obispo's China Town from the 1940s to the 1980s.
Five years ago, the family put together their first cookbook and sold 1,700 copies.
Andrew Gin, the great-grandson of the original Mee Heng Low owners, told KSBY News, “The original cookbook was actually a way to capture the family recipes. My grandma was diagnosed with lymphoma, so we kind of wanted to capture them before the worst case scenario happened, but, luckily, she's made a full recovery since, so it's just a great way to tribute that.”
The family is now rebooting the cookbook with highly-requested new recipes.
Through Friday, the cookbook can be pre-ordered online for $30.
They will ship in early November.
Mee Heng Low Noodle House on Palm Street is under new management and is open for outdoor dining and take out.
