Work is underway on a new exhibit that will allow guests to go “down under” at the Santa Barbara Zoo.

The 15,000 square-foot Australian Walkabout will be home to wallabies, emus, native birds and even kangaroos.

The zoo says the upcoming exhibit “represents an ongoing connection between our community and dedicated conservation efforts in Australia.”

It is being constructed in the former elephant exhibit where Sujatha and Little Mac spent 45 years together before passing away in 2018 and 2019.

The zoo is still in need of $3 million to finish the exhibit.

The zoo remains open, but reservations are required.
