Drivers will now have to pay again if parking in San Luis Obispo parking garages for an extended period of time.
Starting Monday, Drivers will have to pay $1.25 or a fraction of that after the now two-hour grace period.
There are also new kiosks where drivers can pay fees before leaving the structure.
The parking services manager for the city says the changes are not only meant to help local businesses, but also to create a convenient parking experience for customers.
"We do encourage customers to pay prior to leaving the structure at one of the pay stations located at one of the stairwells or elevators and then you can also process your ticket at the exit using a credit card only,” said Gaven Hussey, City of San Luis Obispo parking services manager.
Parking revenue is used for maintaining parking structures. The city expects to come back from pandemic-induced revenue losses by next year.
Payments are still required at parking meters.
